Clausier

Desktop tool for CRUD management of hierarchical regulatory frameworks: laws, articles, standards.

Year
2024
Context
Bureau Veritas Exploitation — internship, 01/2024–07/2024
My role
Software Developer & Data Analyst Intern. Developed the tool.
Stack
  • Electron
  • Angular
  • TypeScript
  • SQL Server

01Problem

Compliance work at Bureau Veritas relies on regulatory frameworks that are hierarchical: laws, their articles, and the standards attached to them. Clausier is a desktop tool to create, read, update and delete entries at each level of that hierarchy.

Bureau Veritas: Testing, Inspection & Certification, operating in 140 countries. The internship also covered Power BI dashboards, Snowflake compliance analysis and ETL workflows for OPALE inspection data, outside the scope of this report.

02Architecture

Data paths, in order

Fig. 3.1 — Clausier: desktop application, local database, and the hierarchy it manages.

A desktop application built with Electron and Angular (TypeScript) reads and writes a local SQL Server database. The database holds the framework hierarchy: laws, articles and standards.

Drawn from the internship description only; no source diagram is on file.

Decision 01 / 03

Desktop application on Electron and Angular

Decision
Ship Clausier as an Electron desktop application with an Angular (TypeScript) interface.

Decision 02 / 03

Local SQL Server database

Decision
Store the frameworks in a local SQL Server database.

Decision 03 / 03

The hierarchy as the data model

Decision
Model frameworks explicitly as a hierarchy of laws, articles and standards, with CRUD at every level.
Rationale
The frameworks are hierarchical; the data model follows the structure of the texts.
